History and missions

The LAK (Lëtzebuerger Associatioun vun de Klengdéierepraktiker – Luxembourg Association of Small Animal Practitioners) was founded on 28 July 1993, and by the end of that year, the General Assembly counted 48 members.

One of the main objectives of the LAK is professional development, achieved through the organization of conferences that cover all areas of companion animal veterinary medicine. Other key roles include fostering relationships among LAK members, building international connections with other associations, and engaging with FECAVA (Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations), where the LAK is represented by a board member.

Over the years, the association has taken on additional responsibilities to enhance the veterinary profession. These include establishing and monitoring an on-call emergency service, coordinating a standardized pet identification system in Europe (via microchips), organizing theoretical training courses for owners of dangerous dogs (in line with the Dog Law of 9 May 2008), representing the veterinary profession in the public sphere, and distributing relevant information to its members.

To this day, LAK has significantly strengthened the relationships among veterinarians across Luxembourg.

As of 10 February 2024, the LAK had 208 members: 164 female and 44 male veterinarians.
